Jackets Avoid Hornets’ Revenge
Oxford Varsity Girls Basketball Defeats Chelsea 68-62
Three quarters into the Oxford Lady Jackets’ away bout with the Chelsea Hornets, the Jackets’ found themselves in an uphill battle against a team that they had already defeated 89-71 at home. The Jackets started the fourth quarter down 46-36 and outscored the Hornets 32-16 in the homestretch.
Chelsea (1-10) was hungry for a win, but the Jackets proved themselves hungrier.
The game was a tale of two halves, especially from the free throw line. Oxford shot 22% (2/12) at the line in the first half. They shot 21 more free throws in the second half, but this time they shot 81%, making 17 of 21 from the line.
Three Jackets scored in double digits: Tremeria Britt (23 points), Anna Bolton (13 points), and Makayla Kidd (11 points). Other scorers included Ashleigh Jackson (8), Justyce Smith (7), Aumauria Lindsey (4), and Akiera Robinson (2).
Oxford (7-7) gets a break through Christmas before they play again. Their next game will be against Boaz (6-7) on December 28 in the first game of the Glencoe Holiday Shootout. The tournament will be played at Glencoe High School.
