Talladega Tough to Beat
Oxford Varsity Girls Basketball Loses to Talladega 77-52

Oxford ended the last week of school before the holidays with a tough matchup at Talladega.

The Lady Jackets battled throughout the night to limit Talladega’s greatest threat, University of Memphis commit Camille Buckhanon. Oxford post Aumaria Lindsay pulled down 10 rebounds, while teammates Justyce Smith and Ashleigh Jackson combined for 10 more. Jackson also pitched in 11 points in the battle. Buckhanon ended the contest with 10 rebounds and 33 points.

The Jackets ended the first half down 40-19, but pulled back within seven points in the third quarter before having their run extinguished by the Tigers. Oxford post players occupying Talladega’s inside helped their guard teammates find space to penetrate and put up good shots.

Tremeria Britt led the Lady Jackets with 27 points. Jackson was the second leading scorer. Other scorers included JaMyia Byrd (6), Anna Bolton (2), Halaya Harmon (2), and Aumaria Lindsay (2).

The Lady Jackets (6-6) will be on the road for their next game at Chelsea (1-10) Tuesday, December 19.
