Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity fought back after falling down by six runs in the fifth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 6-5 defeat to Hoover on Saturday.

Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity put up five runs in the failed comeback. Takya Garrett and Cohlee Boone fueled the rally with RBIs.

Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity couldn’t keep up with Hoover early in the game. Hoover took the lead on a home run in the first inning.

Hoover got things moving in the first inning, when Moore homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity tallied four runs in the sixth inning. Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity scored its runs on a grand slam by Garrett.

Hoover scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Hoover came thanks to singles by Hecklinski and Moore and a double by Cannon.

Cannon earned the win for Hoover. She went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out 12 and walking zero. Harris threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Harris recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Hoover.

Emily Thrasher took the loss for Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity. She allowed five hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Manering started the game for Hoover. She allowed one hit and zero runs walking zero
Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity hit two home runs on the day. Boone had a dinger in the seventh inning. Garrett went for the long ball in the sixth inning.

Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity tallied nine hits. Boone and Bailey Clark all managed multiple hits for Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity. Boone went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity in hits. Oxford Lady Jackets Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Riley Rhodes had the most chances in the field with five.

Hoover racked up nine hits on the day. Hecklinski, Cannon, and Moore each racked up multiple hits for Hoover. Hecklinski led Hoover with three hits in three at bats. Hoover didn’t commit a single error in the field. Manering had 13 chances in the field, the most on the team.
